Section 14. Storage batteries 

 

140. General
The provisions of this section are intended to apply to all stationary installations of storage batteries. For operating precautions, see Part 4 of this Code.

 

🔋 140. 일반 사항 (General)

📌 이 섹션의 규정은 모든 고정식(Stationary) 배터리 설치에 적용됩니다.
⚠️ 배터리 작동 시 주의사항은 **NESC Part 4(운영 규정)**을 참고해야 합니다.


Space shall be provided around batteries for safe inspection, maintenance, testing, and cell replacement 

 

and space left above the cells to allow for operation of lifting equipment when required, addition of water, and taking measurements.

 

✅ 배터리 유지보수를 위한 공간 확보

  • 배터리 주변에 충분한 공간을 확보해야 함.
  • 안전한 점검, 유지보수, 테스트, 배터리 교체를 할 수 있어야 함.
  • 배터리 셀(cell) 위쪽에는 리프팅 장비 사용, 물 보충, 측정 작업이 가능하도록 공간을 남겨둬야 함.

 

 

141. Location
Storage batteries shall be located within a protective enclosure or area accessible only to qualified persons. 

 

A protective enclosure can be a battery room, control building, or a case, cage, or fence that will protect the contained equipment 

 

and limit the likelihood of inadvertent contact with energized parts.

 

📍 141. 배터리 설치 위치(Location)

📌 배터리는 보호 구역 내에 설치해야 하며, 자격을 갖춘 사람만 접근 가능해야 합니다.

🔹 보호 구역 예시

  • 배터리실(Battery Room)
  • 제어 건물(Control Building)
  • 케이스(Case)
  • 철망(Cage)
  • 울타리(Fence)

👉 보호 구역은 배터리를 안전하게 보호하고, 감전 사고를 예방해야 함.

 

 


142. Ventilation
The battery area shall be ventilated, either by a natural or powered ventilation system to limit hydrogen accumulation to less than an explosive mixture. 

 

Failure of a continuously operated or automatically controlled powered ventilation system required by design to limit hydrogen accumulation to less than an explosive mixture shall be annunciated.

 

💨 142. 환기(Ventilation)

📌 배터리 구역은 자연 환기 또는 기계식 환기를 통해 수소(Hydrogen) 가스 축적을 방지해야 함.

⚠️ 수소가 공기 중에 쌓이면 폭발 위험이 있음!
💡 만약 환기 시스템이 고장 나서 수소가 쌓이면, 경고 시스템(Annunciation System)이 작동해야 함.

 

 


143. Racks
Racks refer to frames designed to support cells or trays. 

 

Racks shall be firmly anchored, preferably to the floor. Anchoring to both walls and floors is not recommended. Racks made of metal shall be grounded.

📌 배터리 랙(Rack)은 배터리 셀 또는 트레이를 지지하는 구조물을 의미함.

✅ 설치 규정
✔️ 랙은 바닥(Floor)에 단단히 고정(Anchoring) 해야 함.
✔️ 벽(Wall)과 바닥(Floor) 모두에 고정하는 것은 추천되지 않음.
✔️ 금속으로 된 랙(Metal Rack)은 반드시 접지(Grounding)해야 함.

 

 


144. Floors in battery areas
Floors of battery areas should be of an acid-resistive material, painted with acid-resistive paint, or otherwise protected.

 

Provision should be made to contain spilled electrolyte.

 

🔳 144. 배터리 구역의 바닥(Floors in Battery Areas)

📌 배터리 보관 구역의 바닥은 산(acid)에 저항성이 있어야 함.

 

✅ 필요한 조치:
✔️ 바닥을 **산 저항성 재료(Acid-Resistive Material)**로 만들어야 함.
✔️ 또는 **산 저항성 페인트(Acid-Resistive Paint)**로 코팅해야 함.
✔️ 전해질(Electrolyte)이 유출되었을 때를 대비해 흡수할 수 있는 보호 장치 필요.

 

 


145. Illumination for battery areas
Lighting fixtures shall be protected from physical damage by guards or isolation. Receptacles and lighting switches should be located outside of battery areas.

 

💡 145. 배터리 구역의 조명(Illumination for Battery Areas)

📌 **조명 기구(Lighting Fixtures)**는 물리적 손상(Physical Damage)으로부터 보호되어야 함.

 

✅ 안전 조치:
✔️ 보호대(Guard) 또는 격리(Isolation)를 설치해야 함.
✔️ 콘센트(Receptacle) 및 조명 스위치(Switch)는 배터리 구역 외부에 설치하는 것이 바람직함.

 

 


146. Service facilities
A. Proper eye protection and clothing shall be provided in the battery area during battery maintenance and installation and shall consist of the following: 

 

1. Goggles or face shield 

2. Acid-resistant gloves 

3. Protective aprons and overshoes

4. Portable or stationary water facilities or neutralizing agent for rinsing eyes and skin


B. Safety signs inside and outside of a battery room or in the vicinity of a battery area, prohibiting smoking, sparks, or flame shall be provided.

 

🔧 146. 안전 설비(Service Facilities)

📌 배터리 유지보수 및 설치 작업 시 안전 보호 장비 착용이 필수!

✅ 필수 보호 장비:
1️⃣ 고글(Goggles) 또는 안면 보호대(Face Shield)
2️⃣ 산 저항성 장갑(Acid-Resistant Gloves)
3️⃣ 보호 앞치마(Acid-Resistant Apron) 및 신발 보호대(Overshoes)
4️⃣ 휴대용 또는 고정형 세척 장치(Portable or Stationary Water Facilities) 또는 중화제(Neutralizing Agent) 준비

📌 배터리실 내부 및 외부에는 안전 표지판(Safety Signs) 부착 필수!
🚭 흡연 금지(No Smoking), 불꽃·스파크 금지(No Sparks or Flames) 등의 경고 문구 필요
